More than 30 years of scientific expertise.

Our purpose

Mycropt offers tailored solutions for biotech, biopharma and research companies that wants to improve their protein production, or diversify their product portfolio. We apply our unique platform technology to help customers enable the production of novel, difficult-to-express targets and enhance the yield of existing products.

The people

Behind Mycropt is a team of experienced scientists with more than 30 years of academic and industrial expertise in microbial protein production.

Morten Nørholm, Co-founder and CEO

Morten Nørholm is a co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Mycropt. He has a MSc in biochemistry from the University of Copenhagen and a PhD degree in molecular biology from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University and has been a visiting scientist at Harvard Medical school. Morten has received postdoctoral training at the laboratory of Gunnar von Heijne at Stockholm University, a world leading lab for membrane protein research. Since 2011, he is a Principal Investigator at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, leading a research group that focuses on protein production, synthetic biology and microbial evolution. Morten is also a co-founder and CSO of CloneOpt AB.

Maja Rennig, Co-founder and CTO

Maja Rennig is a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Mycropt. She holds a Diploma in biochemistry from Germany and a PhD in synthetic biology and bioengineering from the Technical University of Denmark. In her PhD, she developed part of Mycropt's technology. Maja's research focused on optimizing production of proteins in microbial cell factories and the development of synthetic biology tools for metabolic engineering and recombinant protein production. In her postdoctoral research she engineered production of a difficult-to-produce class of enzymes.

Jenny Landberg, Co-founder and Operational Manager

Jenny Landberg is a co-founder and Operational Manager at Mycropt. She has a MSc in engineering and biotechnology from Lund University. Jenny is currently doing her PhD in synthetic biology and bioengineering at the Technical University of Denmark, where her research is focused on engineering novel growth decoupling methodologies for improving production of proteins and biochemicals in microorganisms. She has experience in metabolic engineering and development of synthetic biology tools for yeast and bacteria.

Daniel Daley, Co-founder and Main Inventor

Daniel Daley is a co-founder and main inventor He has a background in molecular biology, proteomics, and protein production and purification. He has a BSc Hons and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Western Australia, and has received postdoctoral training at the laboratory of Gunnar von Heijne at Stockholm University, a world leading lab for membrane protein research. Since 2006, Dan is working as an Associate Professor at Stockholm University focusing on protein biogenesis in bacteria. He is also a co-founder and CEO of CloneOpt AB.

Alex Toftgaard Nielsen, Co-founder and Main Inventor

Alex Toftgaard Nielsen is a co-founder and main inventor. He has a background in metabolic engineering, bacterial physiology and single cell biosensor systems. He holds a MSc and PhD degree in Chemical Engineering and Microbiology from the Technical University of Denmark and has received postdoctoral training at Stanford University. He has also held positions at two biotech companies, Exiqon in Denmark and Genencor in USA. In 2011, he was appointed Professor at the Technical University of Denmark, where his research focuses on improving production of biochemicals and proteins by metabolic engineering of bacteria. Additional research activities include development of synthetic biology tools for metabolic engineering and heterologous protein expression. Alex is also a co-founder and CSO of CysBio.
